More medals in Bath!

This weekend Guildford kept up their record of winning at every tournament they have played in this summer. The mens team won Division 2 at the Whitefield (Bath) International Tournament. See the Tournaments page for full details.

Hopefully winning ways will continue at Cambridge Tournament on 2/3 August. Players are still being sought so get in touch if you fancy winning some medals!!

Summer League Update...

As usual the weather has been good all week and then the rain arrives on Thursday!!

Fortunately we are only expecting showers so Summer League Volleyball will still be on as usual.

Check out the latest players rankings on the Summer League page. Currently there are a number of new entries at the top of the table and they are likely to drop. If we just consider players who have played 6 or more matches then the top players are John, Antonella, Clive, Maria and Lazith. These are the players looking good at the moment for top spot come the end of the summer. But don't forget there are lots of prizes to be won in various categories, e.g. Most Improved, Happiest Player and Most committed. So still plenty to play for!

Stoke Park Slappers Win at East Hants...

The Guildford team formed mainly from Summer Volleyball League players had its first taste of success. Competing at the annual East Hants Volleyball Picnic they came out as winners of their Pool. The team comprising Clive, Lisa, Mia, Lasith, Thushara and Mike put all their outdoor practice on Thursdays to good use and won all of their games in the afternoon session securing 1st place.

Meanwhile the Guildford Grasshoppers team found themselves in the top pool for the afternoon and found the going tough and only registered one win against some tough opposition.

Next weekend the Grasshoppers will be appearing again at the Whitefield (Bath) tournament.

Indoor Volleyball stopped for the summer...

Due to the number of people on holidays and wanting to get outdoors and enjoy the great British summer there will be no more indoor training sessions for the time being. But this does not mean you can't play volleyball... Everyone is welcome to the following:

Sunday nights - Sutherland Memorial Park, Burpham 7-9 (opposite the big sainsburys) , recreational Games (FREE)

Thursday nights - Stoke Park 7-9 , Summer Volleyball League

Lots of tournaments, most weekends, see the list here

The intention is to resume full training sessions in September once the floor in the spectrum has been replaced. National League training on Wed / Thurs will probably start sooner at an alternative location.

GIVC wishes the Coopers all the best...

Today sees some members of the GIVC family move on to pastures new. Paul, Gail and Sam Cooper have had enough of England and decided to start a new life in New Zealand.

Paul has been an active member of the club from it's very early days and we have many great memories of good times with him on and off court. Gail joined the club about 10 years ago and this was how she met Paul. This in turn led to the arrival of their son Sam who will be missed by his other GIVC toddler teammates.

We wish them every sucess in the move to New Zealand and we look forward to coming to visit soon.

Following the first night of competition in the Guildford Summer League the rankings table is being topped by Jez, mostly due to his willingness to throw himself around the court at great speed. Antonella and Zuzanna are tied for 2nd place with some solid performances.

It is not to late for you to join the Summer League, play will resume next Thursday at 7.00 and new players are very welcome.

NVL Season has finished...

The National League season is now over for all of the Guildford Teams.

The Mens Division 1 team have found it hard playing against some strong teams and will be relegated after only registering 1 win. The Mens 2 team fared slightly better winning 7 of their 16 matches and finishing 6th in Division 3 west.

The Womens team playing in Division 2 have gained the most wins of all the teams this season and were only 2 wins away from a playoff place.

Due to a number of player retirements all the teams are now looking for players to join them in next seasons campaigns. If you are interested in playing National League volleyball with Guildford next season please get in touch using the contact link at the top of the page.
